In 2014 LUNA ROSSA released their 2nd album – ‘Secrets & Lies’. Within weeks, the album was topping acoustic charts and setting a new benchmark amongst the finest of 21st century acoustica.
In Autumn 2018, the group will be releasing their hotly-anticipated 3rd album; and this exclusive show at Acapela will be a part of their major new UK Tour.
THE MUSIC
The music of Luna Rossa is rooted in a timeless base of grand piano and acoustic guitar. On lead vocal, the soaring and emotive voice of Anne-Marie is given absolute freedom to fly, and she weaves her way joyfully through each varied mood, chameleon-like. (Helder has won multiple Awards in the ‘Best Female Vocalist’ category, including two years at no.1 in the ‘Prog’ magazine annual poll, voted for by 40,000 readers)
Accompanying herself on the acoustic and 12-string guitar, Helder is a mesmerising and perfectly natural frontwoman. Her pedigree has been earned from years of hard work and intensive touring, both as a multi-instrumentalist and a solo artist in her own right. Alongside her work with Panic Room and Luna Rossa, she has become highly sought-after as a guest artist, being invited to work with Steve Hackett, Keith Emerson, Ultravox, Fish, Nick Harper, Glenn Tilbrook, Paul Young, and many other legendary artists.
Anne-Marie is joined in Luna Rossa by her longstanding musical partner, Jonathan Edwards, on the grand piano and keyboards. His outstanding talent and tasteful playing – always knowing when to play, and more crucially, when not to play – has made him one of the most highly-respected performers of his generation. Their years of shared musical experience – and great friendship – give this duo an unspoken ‘connection’ which is evident in each live performance. There is also plenty of warmth, humour and banter, which provides a perfect foil for the devastating beauty of their music!
Luna Rossa enjoy welcoming World-class musicians to work with them, both in the studio and on-stage. For this 2018 Tour, they are honoured to welcome back the incredibly talented Sarah Dean on Celtic harp and vocals. The sparkling beauty of the harp – plus the addition of gorgeous harmony vocals from Anne-Marie and Sarah – all help to add an extra layer of haunting, ethereal magic.
But while their core instruments may be timeless, Luna Rossa are also very connected to their modern 21st Century existence. They like to keep things fresh, experimenting with loops, sample and rhythms, and are always ambitious in the breadth of their musical vision.
Never allowing the grass to grow, every Luna Rossa performance is unique and extremely dynamic – you can expect a show full of driving rhythms, strong melodies, changing moods, and a compelling story within each expertly-crafted song. From powerful tracks full of virtuoso musicianship, through to the most delicate moments of sparce peace and beauty,
Luna Rossa will envelop you in a live musical experience which is second to none.
“LUNA ROSSA are beautifully poised between the explorations of Kate Bush and the powerful singer-songwriter tradition that stretches back to Joni Mitchell and the US West Coast of the early 70s”
(PROG Magazine, Rachel Mann)
“Not rock, not folk, not jazz, but inhabiting a hushed, bruised & wonderful world somewhere in-between.
Honest, beautiful, sometimes heartbreaking.”
(Echoes & Dust)
